Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program
SCERDO is a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH) as per the agreement signed with
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada (IRCC). This agreement enables our
organization to privately sponsor refugees to Canada.
If you are selected as a successful applicant this is the process you can expect:
Step 1: Apply
Register with our SAH and fill out form of interest
Step 2: Background
Gather information about you the sponsor and about the refugee(s) and submit to our organization
Step 3: Fill out
Fill out all required application forms and gather all required documentation
Step 4: Last Steps
SCERDO will submit application to IRCC. Await future correspondence.

The price differs based on the family’s size, the ages of its members, and their requirements. This calculator will provide you with an estimate.
We are only able to accept applications from Edmonton residents.
If you have a family member who qualifies as a refugee and you reside outside of Edmonton, you can contact the local SAH (Sponsorship Agreement Holder) that serves your specific residential community. You can find that information here.
- Individual is outside their home country
- Individual cannot return to their home country due to a well-founded fear of persecution based on: race, religion, political opinion, nationality, and/or membership in a particular social group (examples: gender, sexual orientation, etc.)
Processing times for refugee sponsorship application varies in different Canadian visa offices abroad. To learn more about the average processing time at the relevant Visa Office, visit the IRCC website
The sponsor has various responsibilities to assist the refugee with resettlement needs upon arrival. SCERDO collaborates with co-sponsors/CG’s to meet the refugee’s settlement needs. For more information on sponsor settlement responsibilities, visit here.
